Happy Holidays from Penn Emblem Company

This Monday, Penn Emblem Company got into the Holiday spirit during our annual Holiday Luncheon! Employees from all departments came dressed in fun and festive sweaters while enjoying a nice lunch together. After the food was done, everyone had an amazing time playing the “White Elephant Game”. White Elephant is a traditional holiday game where employees had the opportunity to choose a present from off of the table or steal someone else’s gift. Everyone had a great time at the party.

At Penn Emblem we look forward to the new year and all of the new opportunities it will bring. Happy Holidays from the Penn Emblem Company Family!

Penn Emblem’s 2017 Charity Review

To celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2017, Penn Emblem Company focused on giving back to the community. Since its incorporation in 1947, one of the core values of the company has been “To do the right thing” which all employees and processes are expected to abide by every day. Penn Emblem Company focused on several charities and causes throughout the year with fundraisers and volunteering. Read below for some of the charities and organizations that Penn Emblem contributed too last year.

Breast Cancer Awareness

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this past October, Penn Emblem Company held an entire a month of “Dress Down Days.” During this time employees paid a small fee if they wished to wear jeans and sneakers around the office. The money collected from this event was donated to the Fox Chase Cancer Center, which supports breast cancer awareness research. Penn Emblem employees raised $1,200.00 throughout the month. The company matched the donation and a grand total of $2,400.00 will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.

As a woman owned business, Penn Emblem Company feels a social responsibility to give to this worthy cause. The company has several employees who have had Breast Cancer or had family members with the disease. If you are interested in learning more about the Fox Chase Cancer Center, check out their website, here.

Greyhound Rescue

In November, Penn Emblem employees braved the early morning and volunteered at the Dutton Road Veterinary Clinic with the National Greyhound Adoption Program. Fourteen Penn Emblem volunteers walked the dogs with friends and family.

Penn Emblem Customer Support Specialist, Rick Dunn, felt so inspired that he adopted one of the dogs as part of his family.

The National Greyhound Adoption Program was founded to help find loving, adoptive homes for former racing greyhound dogs.

The Program provides knowledge and support for greyhound dog adopters and other adoption groups to educate the public and spread awareness about greyhound dogs. This program also provides specialized medical care that specifically targets greyhounds as well. If you are interested in learning more, visit their website, here.

Awareness Campaigns

Penn Emblem Company also participated in several awareness campaigns throughout the month by selling products to raise money for a variety of different causes. In September, Houston, Texas was hit with Hurricane Harvey, one of the largest and most costly hurricanes in United States history. To support the cause, Penn Emblem Company sold its Texas flag stock patch to its customers donating the proceeds to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

During the month of October, Penn Emblem Company teamed up with SelectPatch to sell caps with interchangeable patches to benefit the Fox Chase Cancer Center. The caps came with four different designs that customers could change out designs for a fresh look.

November was Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and Penn Emblem Company designed and sold sublimated patches that were donated to Alzheimer’s Awareness.

Custom Emblem Backings

Custom Emblem Backings

Penn Emblem Company provides several applications for emblems to be attached to garments and other textile products. How these emblems can be attached garments varies on the type of backing used, the size of the emblems, and the types of materials the emblems will be attached to. Almost all emblems can be sewn on, but when it comes to heat seal application, smaller emblems are easier to work with.
PennBond® Industrial Backing

Industrial backing is specifically designed to be able to withstand the Industrial Laundry process. Emblems with PennBond® backing can be either sewn or heat sealed onto garments. PennBond® is the recommended backing for emblems being used in the Rental Uniform Industry. Industrial adhesive backing has been tested for up to 50 wash cycles.

Low Melt Backing

Low-Melt backing heat seals at low temperatures without doing damage to the garment. Suitable for home laundry only, Low-Melt backing can be used in the majority of industries to heat seal emblems to apparel and accessories. Low Melt backing has been wash tested for up to 25 wash cycles.

Pressure Sensitive

Pressure sensitive backing is a temporary peel and stick adhesive that can be applied to apparel and accessories for a temporary embellishment option. Pressure Sensitive emblems can be peeled off at the end of events and promotions without doing damage to the garment.

Velcro

Velcro backings are available for industries where removing and reapplying patches is frequent. Used often in military applications, Velcro patches make it easy to changes patches on uniforms when necessary.

Heat Seal Notes & Tips
  • Thicker Fabrics may require longer cycle times beyond the ranges
  • Treated Fabrics finished with coatings, sizing or repellents may not allow for the proper heat seal bonding.
  • Items made with leather, suede, nylon, synthetics, nylon-shell, interlinings, rubberized coatings, and reflective fabrics, such as jackets and luggage, may react poorly to heat seal temperatures depending on thickness, weave, texture and weight. IT is recommended that these fabrics be tested first, with possible heat seal time and temperature adjustments. In many cases, it may be better to have emblems sewn onto these materials.

To learn more about specific Heat Seal guidelines for each adhesives, visit our Technical Support Page.

5 Decorated Corporate Gifts Your Employees will Love

Tis the season to start getting ready for corporate holiday parties and events. Company branded apparel is a classic corporate gift that keeps on giving the whole year. Decorated corporate gifts and branded apparel gives employees a sense of belonging and fosters team spirit, all while being a free promotional item outside of the office. There are numerous apparel options to decorate with your brand for holiday gifts, here are a few of our favorites and some embellishment options to pair with them.

Outerwear

With the weather drop, outerwear is a great holiday gift to keep employees warm during the cold seasons. PennFlex™, Penn Emblem’s newest branding solution, is a high-resolution three-dimensional embellishment that recreates logos and artwork in full color. These kinds of patches have roots (rephrase?) in the sports and retail industries, giving garments a stylish and eye-catching look. PennFlex™ patches can be heat sealed to outerwear within seconds.

Decorated Blankets

Another warm weather staple and a more economical gift option is decorated blankets. Blankets can come in a variety of different colors and styles and are a very popular gift for the holidays. Put your customer’s logo on the corner of the blanket with Direct Embroidery for a very classy and prestigious gift option. Direct Embroidery is classic embellishment option that has been around for years and adds a perceived higher value to a garment or accessory.

Hats

Decorated hats will always be a fashion staple and are an easy and affordable corporate gift for all of your customer’s employees. In the past, Direct Embroidery has been a traditional embellishment choice for a lot of hat wearers, but as a more economical alternative, embroidered appliques can simulate the same look.

Mugs

As the weather gets cooler, beverages get hotter. Decorated mugs of all styles make great corporate gifts and are something that can be used all year long. Domed embellishments paired with mugs add dimension to catch the eye. These patches can come with a pressure sensitive backing that makes it easy to stick them permanently onto a variety of surfaces including mugs.

Backpacks

Backpacks make great holiday gifts, making it easy to fill them with other fun gifts especially for employees on the go. Patches made of flock materials are very durable and will hold up through whatever adventures the backpack might trek on. They print logos in full photo-realistic detail, so they work especially well for companies with complex logos and artwork.
